Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce
As you know, we will close out 2009 with the retirement of Chamber President Pete Levi, who has served this organization so well for 19 years. We will all miss Pete and wish him the very best.
Change in any organization is inevitable, and although difficult, it also represents opportunity. A new president will lead this region’s oldest and largest business organization – one of only a few that works above the state line.
Peter C. Brown, (Grassmere Partners) and I are co-chairing the Selection Committee, which includes the chairs of the Kansas City Area Development Council, the Civic Council, Economic Development Council, and Downtown Council. Current officers and the past three chairs of The Chamber are on the committee as well. We are pleased to have such a diverse group in terms of gender, age, race, geography, and size of business.
The search process recently began with the hiring of EFL Associates of Leawood, a recruitment firm with the capacity to conduct both a local and national search. In addition, EFL head Pete Lemke brings a unique perspective to the task – he served as chair of The Chamber in 1999.
We are all committed to a transparent and inclusive process. As the field is winnowed to the final few candidates, we plan to include still more people and organizations in the vetting process.
A job description has been finalized and posted here, with a description of the position specifications here. If you would like to apply – or know someone who meets our criteria – please contact Pete Lemke or Angela Salmon at EFL.
We certainly welcome your thoughts too, so feel free to email the Selection Committee. I will provide regular updates as we work to identify the best person for this very important role.
